Long Distance

On Friday, our school had our long distance running races for our Athletics Day.
First, we sat down by the Junior classrooms and waited for Mrs Thomson to call us up for stretches. The children were sitting in a group on the steps, chattering and laughing together. I was feeling excited about my race.
Next, Mrs Thomson called the nine year old girls up for stretches. We were silently stretching our legs and arms and  doing jogging on the spot to warm up our muscles. I was feeling nervous because I didn't know if I was going to do well or not.
Finally, the nine year old girls lined up and Mr Emms said, "Take your marks, set," and the gun went bang. We zoomed off in our PE uniforms around the track on the first lap. We ran as fast as lightning. I took off too early and I got tired, so I paced myself the rest of the way. The children who weren't racing were cheering excitedly. On the last straight, I sprinted to the finish line and I won.
I felt happy because I won my first race. I have been picked for the relay team.
